Fleet Electrification Strategy and Implementation Study

Fleet Electrification Strategy Group Shot

Niagara Transit is conducting a Fleet Electrification Strategy and Implementation Study to identify options for a phased-in deployment of fleet and infrastructure upgrades, leading to GHG emissions reductions while also ensuring operational effectiveness and maximum value for regional taxpayers. The study will be completed in tandem with Niagara Transit’s comprehensive Facilities, Strategic Asset and Service Network Master Plan to optimize social access, ridership demand, travel time, cost-effectiveness and the utilization of existing fixed assets. A multi-year strategy will be developed, with the ability to remain flexible, recognizing the continued evaluation of underlying technologies and allowing for growth and future expansion opportunities resulting from the Master Plan.

The electrification study is expected to consider a long-term planning horizon of approximately 25 years when considering GHG emission reduction targets, with an initial outlook of 10 years to align with the Niagara Region’s capital planning and budgeting process. The study is expected to be completed in early 2025.
