Responsibilities:
- Before the shift, complete a daily vehicle inspection of the assigned vehicle according to CVOR standards.
- Operates vehicle safely, timely and properly, including during adverse road and weather conditions.
- Monitor the farebox to ensure proper fares are collected.
- Maintains awareness of all service changes, fare information, manual of operating instructions and Highway Traffic Act.
- Monitor the performance of the bus and report to the on-duty Supervisor any significant defects that require changing the bus. All defects are to be written up clearly for the Maintenance Department.
- Reports other information and problems to the Supervisor, i.e. route blockages, accident locations, traffic congestion, weather and road conditions, etc.
- Complete appropriate reports, i.e. accident and incident reports.
- Respond courteously to all inquiries from the public.
- Remains polite under all circumstances. The nature of the job is physically and emotionally demanding, and the ability to deal with sensitive situations involving persons with disabilities.
- Communicates with Supervisor and other Operators via the 2-way radio system professionally and appropriately.

Recruitment Process Steps:
Step 1) Recruitment Session: Candidates invited will receive all the details and expectations of the Bus Operator position, and are welcome to ask any questions.
Step 2) Interview: If selected to move forward in the process, candidates will be invited to attend the interview.
Step 3) Testing: Candidates who successfully complete the interview will move forward to testing. No details about the testing are able to be provided to candidates to ensure the process remains consistent.
Step 4) References: All candidates selected will be asked to provide 2 Supervisory references, at the time of their interview, and references are only contacted if candidates are successful through all steps.
Assessment Criteria:
Candidates will be evaluated based on job-related criteria through testing, interviews, and reference checks. Additionally, a review of publicly accessible records may be conducted.
General Information About the Recruitment Process:
- All steps of the recruitment process are conducted in-person.
- Due to the high volume of candidates who participate in the process, we do not provide individual feedback.
- Candidates must provide a 3-year Driver’s Abstract, dated within 3 months from the date of your application, with their resume when applying, ensuring:
- It is free from the any infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points and accidents.
- Confirms a minimum of 5 years driving experience and minimum 3 years with a full Ontario G licence.
- Applicants failing to meet the driver’s abstract criteria will be excluded from the subsequent stages.

Interview:
- The interview panel will be composed of hiring Managers and Human Resources representatives.

- The position of Bus Operator is a highly competitive process and to ensure we evaluate all candidates successfully, interviews are conducted using a rotating interview panel method.
Testing:
- The testing is inclusive of a tablet portion and an on-road portion.
- No additional preparation is necessary for the testing.
