Responsibilities:

  • Before the shift, complete a daily vehicle inspection of the assigned vehicle according to CVOR standards.
  • Operates vehicle on time safely, timely and properly, including during adverse road and weather conditions.
  • Monitor the farebox to ensure proper fares are collected.
  • Maintains awareness of all service changes, fare information, manual of operating instructions and Highway Traffic Act.
  • Monitor the performance of the bus and report to the on-duty Supervisor any major defects that require changing of the bus. All defects are to be written up clearly for the Maintenance Department.
  • Reports other information and problems to supervisor i.e. route blockages, accident locations, traffic congestion, weather and road conditions, etc.
  • Complete appropriate reports, i.e. accident and incident reports.
  • Respond in a courteous manner to all inquiries from the public.
  • Remains courteous and polite under all circumstances. The nature of the job is physically and emotionally demanding, ability to deal with sensitive situations involving clients with special needs (emotional and physical).
  • Communicates with Supervisor and other Operators, via the 2-way radio system, in a professional and appropriate manner.

Assessment Criteria:

Candidates will be evaluated based on job-related criteria through testing, interviews, and reference checks. Additionally, a review of publicly accessible records may be conducted.

Testing:

  • Eligible candidates will be asked to participate in specific tests.
  • Candidates must provide a 3-year Driver's Abstract, ensuring:
    • It is free from infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points, and accidents.
    • It is dated within 4 weeks of the testing date.
  • To obtain a Driver's Abstract, please visit Ontario Driver's Record.
  • Third-party abstracts will not be accepted.
  • Applicants failing to meet the Driver’s Abstract criteria will be excluded from the subsequent stages.
  • No additional preparation is necessary for the testing phase.
  • Only candidates who clear all test components successfully will progress to the next recruitment steps. Please note: individual test feedback will not be provided.

Interview:

  • The interview panel will be composed of the Hiring Manager(s).
  • All interviews will be conducted face-to-face.
