Niagara Region Transit - Transit Special Levy

Niagara’s new regional transit service will better connect our communities and get people where they need to go.

With the launch of Niagara Region Transit, your property tax bill will look different starting in 2023.

Here’s how:

  1. Niagara Transit Commission is a municipal services board of the Niagara Region. Its governing board sets budget requirements for the coming year and presents them to Niagara Regional Council for approval.
  2. Much like waste management, transit will appear as a separate levy item on your municipality’s tax bills starting in the second half of 2023.
  3. The transfer of local and Regional operating costs to the NTC may be offset by equal and concurrent reductions to the municipal and Regional levies to minimize the residential taxpayer impact.
