Bus 2368 Farewell
Niagara Transit Retires Bus 2368

After 21 years of dedicated service to the community, Bus 2368 has officially been retired from the Niagara Transit fleet. Holding the title of oldest bus in service in Ontario, Bus 2368 also holds a special place in local transit history as the first low-floor bus introduced in Niagara, significantly enhancing accessibility for riders.
A special ceremony was held today at Niagara Transit’s Heartland Forest Road location to mark bus 2368’s final farewell. The event included a final commemorative ride giving transit enthusiasts one last opportunity to ride this historic vehicle.
Bus 2368 joined the Niagara Falls Transit fleet in 2003, and its introduction marked a pivotal moment in the effort to make public transit accessible to all residents. Until the introduction of the Orion VII model, most buses featured steps, posing considerable challenges for passengers boarding with strollers, mobility devices and wheelchairs. Bus 2368, with its innovative ‘low-kneel’ feature, could lower itself closer to the curb, making boarding and exiting dramatically easier.
The introduction of low-floor buses opened public transit to a broader segment of the community, fostering greater independence and connectivity. While Bus 2368's active service has now concluded, its impact on shaping a more accessible transit system in Niagara will be long remembered.
