Travel Reminders

Book a Trip

Before the Trip

On the day of the ride, customers are required to:

  • Make a note of their confirmed pick-up window
  • Be at an accessible location at the beginning of the scheduled pick-up window
  • Notify us of any changes to their address, telephone number, emergency contact person, or the size or type of mobility aid (wheelchair, scooter or walker)

Accessible Locations

An accessible building entrance / egress door is defined as a door for the pick-up or drop-off of people that doesn't have:

  • Any steps, when a rider uses a motorized wheelchair or scooter
  • More than two steps, when a rider uses a manual wheelchair
  • More than five steps, when a rider is ambulatory

Pick-up Window

All Niagara Specialized Transit vehicles arrive within a half hour pick-up window. This means that if you schedule a ride for 10:30 a.m., the Niagara Specialized Transit driver may arrive anytime between 10:15 and 10:45 a.m.

It's the rider's responsibility to be at the pick-up location at the beginning of the pick-up window as drivers will only wait five minutes for the rider. The pick-up window is in place to accommodate other riders, ensure appointment times are met and lower the operating cost of the service.

Riders who are not available during the pick-up window will be charged for the missed trip. We can't guarantee that another trip (for an additional fare) can be booked on the same day.

During the Trip

When travelling with Niagara Specialized Transit:

  • Riders must wear their seatbelts, unless medically excused
  • Items that interfere with securing mobility aids, including wheelchairs and scooters, are prohibited
  • Smoking, including e-cigarettes, isn't permitted on any transit bus in Niagara, in bus shelters or at bus terminals
  • Toxic, flammable or hazardous substances are not permitted on any transit bus, in bus shelters or at bus terminals.
  • The consumption of alcohol is not permitted on any bus, in bus shelters or at bus terminals. Any containers of alcohol must be sealed.
  • Riders must carry sufficient medication and supplies in case of a delay
  • Riders must refrain from giving gifts or gratuities to the drivers

Drivers may assist you with any items you bring, but they are not required to do so.

Shared Ride Service

We offer a "shared ride service" to lower the operating cost of the service which means:

  • Other riders may be on board during the trip
  • The travel route may be altered to accommodate other riders
  • The vehicle may stop and pick-up other riders as it travels to your destination.

Niagara Specialized Transit cannot always accommodate a rider's personal vehicle preference.

Universal Support Person Pass

If you need assistance while travelling on public transit, you may be eligible for the Universal Support Person Pass. This will allow one support person to ride for free while accompanying a valid fare paying customer who needs assistance while travelling. The pass is for use across all transit systems in Niagara.

If you're thinking of applying for the pass, the following information is important:

  • The pass holder must pay a fare, but is entitled to be accompanied by one support person free of charge
  • Passes are issued to those whose application to the service meets the eligibility criteria as verified by a health or medical professional
  • There is no fee for the Universal Support Person Pass
  • This pass complies with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA)
